Static balance is where we begin the dedicated balance training. These drills teach your body to find and hold its center of gravity in a stationary position, with minimal sway. It’s about building awareness, strengthening those micro-adjustments, and training your core and lower body stabilizers to work together to keep you rooted. The beauty of static drills is their simplicity and accessibility; you can do many of them right in your living room. The first step, often overlooked, is simply standing tall. Stand with your feet hip-width apart, shoulders relaxed, looking straight ahead. Feel the weight evenly distributed through your feet. Notice any sway. Then, consider bringing your feet closer together, making your base of support smaller. Each small reduction in your base forces your body to work harder to maintain equilibrium, progressively strengthening your balance system.
